Joanne Clarke

Young Engineers Club Member from 1990-97 and Young Engineer for Britain entrant

Joanne was a very active member of the St Swithun’s Young Engineers Club. She also entered projects for the Young Engineers for Britain Competition. At age 16, she designed a special collapsible trailer designed for English Heritage. The trailer was designed to carry four fluxgate magnetometers, so that they could examine what was under the soil on large sites. At age 18, she designed a payload for a rocket, which was used by her to measure the temperature in a cloud. This project went on show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The enthusiasm Joanne gained for engineering through Young Engineers greatly influenced her career choice and she went on to do an MEng in Electronics at Nottingham University. Joanne currently works on Hawk trainer fighters for BAE Systems. Whilst at BAE Systems she has also run a conference for the Graduate Intake, and she has also trained staff to do approval tests on tanks and armoured vehicles. She loves her engineering career and has lots of fun with it!
